Mothers who are their daughter’s managers and family finances depending on their children. The children were between the age of 3 and 13 years old. All of this to get a head start on being an influencer. The concept of parents projecting their own dreams on their children is nothing new of course, but the amount of exposure you encounter your children with is completely different on the internet.   Even if you don’t force your child to become an influencer, but post everything from the day their born online there can be consequences to it. There is now a whole new generation growing up with their whole history online without their consent. We don’t know yet what the consequences exactly will be when they are adults but it will make them definitely more vulnerable for things like identity theft and facial recognition programs. With this installation I want to make a critical remark on the exposure of children today by their parents without their consent. I knew about the existence of it but I didn’t new it was a trend for teenage girls under the age of 18. This intrigued me and I started questioning the future of beauty and the way we see ourselves. I created a future scenario of a world were self acceptance doesn’t exist. In this scenario the vagina brace is as normal as a tooth braces. Every time I went visiting her I felt like we had less to talk about or talked about the same things too often. I had never imagined it would be hard keeping up a conversation with someone you know so well. When I brought her a very old photo book of her and my granddad when they first met I saw her light up and she did not stop talking about it anymore. That is why I designed “Memorylane” A game for people with dementia and their loved ones. Going back in time and reliving old memories. It can be played over and over again on 4 different periods of life. On the other hand a lot of people don’t care or even know what is happening with their personal data. I don’t necessarily think we should all delete our Facebook accounts, but I do think that the governments should protect their citizens from this new form of power; owning data. But before we can get to a new system there should be more awareness about what is going on and what the consequences can be. That’s why I created The Datacasino. In the form of a physical slot machine I’m creating a playful way of getting into the subject and open a discussion about it. In this scenario data is currency and you can play with it, sell it to certain companies or keep it. One of my best friends had recently lost her finger in a accident. Which was a terrible event, but something really surprising and positive happened after. She had never been very confident about herself or her appearance before and loosing her finger was very traumatic. But after a while she accepted the fact that she missed a finger and from that moment on her confidence started to increase to a point that she was happy with who she was. It was incredible to watch how this changed the way she sees herself in such a positive way and I was so proud of her. That’s when I came up with the idea of making a finger for her with golden glitters to wear when she would go to a party, so I called it the partyfinger. This made me wonder why protheses are always so boring, trying to be something they will never be. Why not wear it as something extra like an accessory, a different one for each occasion. So I started a very experimental project, involving my friend and trying to create the perfect fit for her finger. Besides that I was experimenting with different kinds of fingers, like a glow in the dark finger or glittery finger.
